Bay Area

Home to approximately 7.75 million people, the Bay Area is made up of 14 counties that developed as population grew around the famed San Francisco Bay. Today this metropolitan area is the 5th largest in the United States and has vibrant and diverse economy with a gross domestic product of over $700 billion and is home to the third highest concentration of Fortune 500 companies in the United States.

The earliest human settlements in the Bay Area dates back thousands of years to the native inhabitants of the region, followed later by the first European peoples (Spanish) exploring it in the last quarter of the 18th century. But the explosive growth of population came in the mid 1800’s when Gold was discovered at Sutter’s Mill in Coloma in the eastern foothills of the Sacramento Valley. San Francisco became the gateway for thousands and thousands of people coming to California in hopes of striking it rich and making their futures and their fortunes.  As the burgeoning population continued to grow with varieties of peoples coming from all over the world it has developed into one of the most diverse and amazing regions in America. Those who have been born here, or who have come to make the Bay Area home over the past one-and-three-quarter centuries  make up a beautiful and diverse tapestry of people and cultures who now live and work in the communities of the 14 counties that make up this region.  All one needs to do is go to a Giants or Oakland A’s baseball game, or 49ers (or once upon a time a Raiders) football game, or a Golden State Warriors game to see an amazing mix of ancestral cultures who make up the Americans who live in the over 100 cities in the 14 counties of the Bay Area. You will find this wonderful mix of people in the recreational and tourist attractions, the parks, museums of science and art, music venues, theatres, opera and ballet halls and concert venues that continue to make the Bay Area such a popular place for people to make their home.

In 1967 a family came to the Bay Area to pursue and achieve their American Dream. The Cavanna family.  This family’s story begins in Madrid, Spain, where two incredibly special people came together to begin their family. The father, the provider, an accountant and successful businessman in financing and investment advising, and the Mother, the heart of the family who understood values that children needed, and who was totally dedicated to her family. Together, they moved their family to the Bay Area to take a chance on achieving the American Dream for their children. In California, they hoped to provide their nine children with the opportunity to succeed in all aspects of life.  Originally pursuing a variety of successful careers, the story of the Cavanna siblings coming together in 1994 to combine their talents and experiences to form a family business dreamed of for 20 years is inspiring. The lasting and foundational influence and values of the Patriarch and Matriarch on the success of Brothers Home Improvement over the past 27 years is the epitome of achieving the American Dream.
